Open cultivaition of eggplant [Solanum melongena] by labour-saving training methods

Two training methods (fence-shaped and cup-shaped) constructing for saving labouras and getting regular yielding and quality, was investigated on fruit yield , working efficiency, quantity of adherent insecticide and productivity of leaf in open cultivation of eggplant. Results were as follows: 1) In the fence- and cup-shaped plots, total and buiable fruits yield were less than in the conventional one. But the buiable fruits rate was more for not being increased the nonstandardized fruits in the latter harvesting time. 2) In the fence- and cup-shaped plots, the leaves around the growing fruit on primary branch were innterceped more radiatioion in the conventional one, and these photosynthetic rate ware higher. 3) On land area basis, working hour needed for buranch training in the fence- and cup-shaped plots was longer than in the conventional one. However on regular yield basis, in the fence-shaped it was shorter than in the conventional one and its difference between in the cup-shaped and in the convenntional one. Both on land area and regular yield basis, working hour needed for fruits harvesting in the fence- and cup-shaped training were shorter than in conventional one. 4) In case of spraing the insecticide, the insecticide adherence offruis in the fence-shaped was more than in the conventional one. And the insecticide adherence of leaf was less than of leaf on outside branch of ridge in conventional, but it was more than of leaf on inside one. In the cup-shaped, the insecticide adherence of both fruit and leaf were more than in conventional. 5) Fromthese results, it could be concluded thatboth the fence- and cup-shaped would be expected for good training in eggplant culutivation by the aged or women, because in the fence- and cup-shaped high quality fruits was yielded through the term of harvesting, and working hours needed for getting regular yeiled were shorted.
