Canine monocytic ehrlichiosis is a tick borne disease of canines, caused by the rickettsia Ehrlichia canis. Although originally described in dogs in Algeria by French investigators. It gained widespread attention during 1960 as an important cause of mortality and morbidity among dogs. Since its discovery, reports indicate that the disease has been increasing in frequency and importance and E.canis infection are known to occur world-wide. The paper describe the demographic studies of canine ehrlichiosis in Chennai over a period of four years (1996-1999).
