Addition of bentonite to feed (2% of dry mass) before calving and for 4-6 weeks after calving increased significantly the content of calcium, inorganic phosphorus, magnesium, carotenes and vitamin A in milk during the first 30 days of lactation. The concentration of ketone bodies was lower than in non-treated controls and no metabolic acidosis was observed
