1980
Bayabgona, E.O. | Ajayi, T.O. (Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research, Lagos (Nigeria))
The paper reviewed coastal and inshore marine fishery resources of Nigeria. It contained lists of common fish groups in artisanal catches, most of which are members of the Sciaenid Supra thermocline community which make seasonal incursions into the shallow inshore waters and lagoons which constitute breeding, nursery and feeding grounds. The artisanal fisheries contributed as much as 60 to 90 percent of the combined landing of the coastal and marine inshore water annually. The review concluded that the inshore demersal trawl fishery is not yet fully exploited. Shrimps are already fully exploited but there is a need to keep off poachers
